Line Rider

Line Rider

In this page of my blog, I shall be researching the animation tool of Line Rider, to see if I can create my animation using the software provided.
I shall be answering some questions so I can see all that the software has to offer, so i know that i am making an informed decision.

The following are the questions I shall answer

1) An overview of your animation software
2) What you are going to use the software for
3) A PMI (postive, minus, interesting)
4) What type of animation the software is
5) How to use the program (basic tutorial)
6) An example of the software (embedded into your blog)
7) A short evaluation of the software based on your experience.

Answers to the Questions

Overview
Line Rider is an online game which lets people create a track where a 'rider' can then start to drive on the track, and make all the jumps you created. Line rider incorporates a game and an animation software into the one website, which makes it a very good software to use. Line Rider is a free online device, which makes it very accessible to people, which is also good.

Use
The software line rider will be used and tested to see if I can make my final design animation, with this tool. There shall be a small design I want to create, and from that I will be able to see if the software is worthy for my animation. I shall also be looking for the flaws, and limitations in the software, which shall hold me back. The findings shall be presented in a PMI chart.

PMI

 PLUS
 MINUS
 INTERESTING
It is a free access software
 It doesn't have many features
How they incorporate a game into a software
It can be saved and re- opened
I can not move my work from one computer to another
You need updated Java on Safari
It doesn't take long to create
You can only make a track, not an adventure story

Animation Software
To view the line rider website, and to start making tracks, visit the website http://www.sosfactory.com/webdesign/linerider.com/playlinerider.html. Once you are on the website you have to click on the 'play' button, which will take you to the in game options. There you use the tools they provided to create the track you want.
The actual type of animation tool that line rider is is a flash based animation, which means that they used the Adobe Flash software to save and make works. The other classification that this tool might be given is the Computer Generated animation or CG animation, which means that the computer software is used instead of traditional software like paper.

Tutorial
Once on the website for line rider, there will be lots of little icons at the top of the screen, and there will be a blank page underneath. To make a track you have to know how to use the tools at the top of the screen.
To draw a curved line, click on the pencil icon. Once there there will be 3   colours to click. The blue is a normal track, the red is a booster track, where you will drive faster when on the track, and the green is a design line, which makes the line impossible to ride on, but it creates a design in the background.

To draw perfectly straight lines click on the line icon. This will bring up the same 3 colours with the same purposes. Next to the line is the rubber, which will delete any part of a track if you click on it. The magnifying glass will bring you closer to the track, so you can have a more detailed track. The hand will move the page you are on, so you can continue the track you are making.

The play button will start the driver and he will start to move down your track. The stop button will cancel the driver, so you can continue to modify your track, and make it better. The flag icon will set down a checkpoint, which is where the driver will start next time he goes down the track.

The save button will enable you to stop your work, and continue it at another time. This is a simple process where you will click the save, put the name of the track in, and then save. Next time you open up the website, you click on save again, click the track name, and then click load, to bring it up. The delete button will delete the entire track, and all of your progress will be gone.

EXAMPLE

Evaluation
Line rider in all is a good tool, and it is an extremely fun game to play. Making a track was extremely easy, and took no time at all, and saving and watching my animation was not hard as well. The only and major problem that I found with Line rider is it can not get that detail that I want to hold in my Animation, so I can not use it. With only one colour of line, and no pre-set designs, there is not enough time to create a GOOD line rider track, and call it my animation.
