Flip Book
During this part of the research I will be looking at both the practical and the theory aspects to the animation tool of Flip Book.
The following questions should be answered in this research section.
1) An overview of your animation software
2) What you are going to use the software for
3) A PMI (postive, minus, interesting)
4) How to use the program (basic tutorial)
5) What type of animation the software is
6) An example of the software (embedded into your blog)
7) A short evaluation of the software based on your experience.

Answers to the Questions
OverviewA Flip book is a book with a series of slightly different pictures that when they are flicked rapidly, the pictures are brought to life, and they start to move. Flip books are often used for a child audience, but an adult audience can be used. Flip Books can be an added feature to a magazine or an book, and they can also be a separate book. There is now software which can enable us to make flip books online or on a computer.
Use
I will be using my flip book to test out, and see if my final design can be made using this software. I shall be creating a small brief where I can test my software, and see what limitations and positives can come out of using it. The software I will be using to create the flip book is http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipbookdeluxe/
PMI
It is easy to access and no downloadable software is needed
|
It takes a long time to create each individual slide, even with copy slide.
|
It can be embedded into my Blogger
|
It is not moveable, so I can not work on it on multiple computers
|
How good the animation comes out if you do it right
|
|
There are lot of choices in colour and size of line
|
There are limited features to the animation software
|
The line distorts if you copy it

Animation Software
To create a flip book, it is required to make a series of extremely similar images, and play then at a speed to create the illusion that the images are actually moving. To read a flip book, stare at the centre of the image, whilst holding the images in one hand, with the thumb holding the pictures back. Then quickly release the pages individually, and then watch the design become an animation.
To create a flip book, you need to draw many images nearly the same, and then repeat this until all the actions of the design are complete.
Tutorial
Similar to the original and hard copy flip book, the software we used to create our software was creating each slide and then playing them at a speed so the illusion of motion is created.
The mouse is used to draw the objects in the picture, and then there are also lots of colours and thicknesses to use. Then if you like the slide then you can create a brand new slide with the right arrow, or you can duplicate the current slide with the arrow with the square. To go back to the previous slide click the left arrow and you shall return. To delete the last move you can click the undo button or you can delete the slide by clicking Delete. To watch the final product before publishing click on the Eye which says preview.
Saving
To save any work that has not been already completed, you click the save button. This will place the flip book into 'My Flip Books' where you can continue the flip book at another time.
If you are complete and your flip book is ready, then you click save and Publish. This will save the work like above, but it will also show the work in the gallery where you and the public can view it.
To create a bigger story flip book you can create individual scenes, and then place then together in 'Build and Publish,' where all the work will be placed in one book.

Evaluation
Although Flip Book is a very well structured and easy to use software, and creates very nice pieces of animation, I shall not be using Flip Book for my final idea. Flip Book takes too long to create a good movie, and it is hard to create a detailed animation. Using the mouse will restrict me a lot instead of using another tool to create my animation. So my research for a software continues an so next page is for Line Rider.
